Company hosts the “Day of Little Scientists” / hands-on activities with water
Yesterday, 50 children from three Bocholt day-care centres were guests at Pieron in Schlavenhorst. The boys and girls took part in the “Day of Little Scientists”. Veronika Droste from the Borken district economic development agency had set up hands-on stations for them in the steel spring manufacturer’s event room. At the tables, the children could mix colours, make boats or build catapults.
“The children are given very few instructions and are simply meant to try things out,” says Droste. She looks after the nursery schools in the district that, through the “Haus der kleinen Forscher” foundation, introduce children to science, mathematics and technology in a playful way.
“Normally I run training courses for the nursery teachers,” says Droste. But this time, the teachers were allowed to bring the children along. “That way, both learn.” Children came from St. Martin, St. Josef and St. Theresia nursery schools.
For the science day, Droste had asked the partner companies for a room. “We are delighted to welcome you here,” Pieron managing director Christian Fehler told the children. He encouraged them always to try things out. “You can only win.”
