Canted coil springs for reliable electrical connections
PIERON canted coil springs are ideal for mechanical fastening and the transmission of electrical currents. Each individual coil acts as a multiple contact point, reliably compensating for tolerances, vibrations and movements – while providing maximum electrical conductivity. In addition to current transmission, EMI shielding (electromagnetic compatibility) and grounding can also be implemented efficiently with canted coil springs. PIERON offers custom contact springs that meet the highest electrical and mechanical requirements.

Canted coil springs from Pieron – FAQ
What is a canted coil spring?
A canted coil spring is an obliquely wound, ring-shaped wire spring made of stainless steel or copper wire. It was developed specifically to ensure both electrical contact and mechanical force transmission between two components. Its geometry (oval coil shape) and the elastic behaviour of the wire material ensure a reliable mechanical connection and safe current transmission. Canted coil springs are used in steering systems, connectors and electrical contacts. The special design allows a high contact density and even force distribution in the smallest installation space – ideal for modern high-current applications.
How does a canted coil spring work?
The canted coil spring works by means of an elastically preloaded wire structure that compresses axially when a connection is made, generating a defined, uniform contact force. The ring-shaped or oval geometry guarantees the maximum number of contact points and even force distribution around the contact area. The result is a stable electrical connection with high current-carrying capacity – even with customer-defined mating cycles or under dynamic load. The canted coil spring acts as a mechanical spring element and an electrical conductor at the same time.
How is a canted coil spring made?
PIERON manufactures canted coil springs in wire diameters from 0.2 to 1.5 mm from highly conductive copper alloys and stainless steels – with additional coating or surface treatment if required. A reliable production process, complemented by quality assurance and traceability to automotive standards, results in series products with consistently high functional reliability. Depending on the application, the spring characteristic, contact force and tolerances are individually adjusted.
What makes the PIERON canted coil spring so special?
PIERON canted coil springs are designed for maximum performance in minimal installation space. They combine a high, uniform contact force with extremely low contact resistance, enabling the safe transmission of even high currents with little heat generation. PIERON’s canted coil springs stand out in particular thanks to a development-integrated approach in which the product is developed together with the customer from the very beginning – with tailored advice on materials and dimensions, and a customer-specific, space-optimised design for the most compact installation situations. Equally distinctive is our high level of process expertise. PIERON benefits from development and production in its own toolmaking department, including prototyping, simulation and optimisation of the manufacturing process. This enables reliable series production to the highest standards – from material and development through to series production with a zero-defect strategy. PIERON’s canted coil spring – a perfectly coordinated combination of custom design, high-precision manufacturing and development-oriented customer integration. Ideal for demanding applications with the highest quality requirements.
Where are PIERON canted coil springs used?
