Clamping rings and lamellar rings
A leading automobile manufacturer aptly describes one of our specialty products as "no small matter": PIERON’s clamping rings. These clamping rings are wound in two layers from spring-hard materials and feature a low-burr cut. Thanks to their special cut and leg geometry, the clamping rings ensure a secure hold on our customers' rubber-metal assemblies. We developed the materials used here in collaboration with our material suppliers in order to offer a robust system with high radial force and high assembly accuracy.
PIERON reliably supplies over 300 million rings to the international market every year – for applications where precision and reliability are crucial.

PIERON Clamping rings - FAQ
A clamping ring is a mechanical connecting elementthat exerts a high radial force or absorbs an axial force for a component to be secured. At Pieron GmbH, clamping rings combine the function of a classic fastening element with the advantages of a spring element. The flat wire clamping rings are particularly impressive thanks to their double layer design: The flat material wound over the high edge generates enormous preload, which ensures high radial forces on the component to be secured.
A lamellar ring is a coiled, shaped ring made of flat wire with a special design. Unlike standard clamping rings, the lamellar ring is coiled with a larger width-to-thickness ratio. Lamellar rings often feature a so-called "step" that allows for a secure two-layer fit in the groove. This makes lamellar rings particularly well suited as removable retaining elements in bores. Through defined waves or special shapes, the width of the ring can be adapted to the specific customer application.
Thanks to their special design, clamping rings exert uniform pressure on the component. They are typically used to reliably secure bellows, for example seals, sleeves or protective elements. Thanks to their compact design and targeted preloading, clamping rings offer a space-saving and highly effective solution for a wide range of applications.
Pieron manufactures both types of rings from high-quality materials, such as carbon steel, patented spring steel wire, and NIROSTA steel. Upon request, additional surface coatings can be applied to improve corrosion resistance, sliding properties and and durability - tailored to the specific application.
Whether clamping rings or lamellar rings: both product types require maximum precision. Precise cuts, minimal burr formation and and precisely shaped ends ends ensure that even sensitive components are held securely and are not damaged. The tools required for this are developed and manufactured at PIERON in our in-house toolmaking department.
Pieron manufactures clamping rings and lamellar rings in its joint ventures worldwide – in Bocholt (Germany), Holland (Ohio, USA) and Taicang (China) as well as in our cooperation in Tumkur (India). This international production network enables our customers to engage in „local to local sourcing“, shortens delivery times, and ensures a reliable supply in all major automotive markets.
Clamping rings are used particularly inautomotive industry - e.g., to secure bellows, seals, or protective elements.
Lamellar rings are used when components need to be securely fastened in bores or grooves and and be removable if necessary – for instance, in drive technology or mechanical safety systems.
