Canted coil springs
PIERON’s canted coil springs are ideally suited for mechanical fastenings and the transmission of electrical currents. Each individual coil acts as a multiple contact point, reliably compensating for tolerances, vibrations, and movements - while ensuring maximum electrical conductivity. In addition to current transmission, EMI shielding (electromagnetic compatibility) and grounding can also be efficiently achieved with canted coil springs. PIERON offers customized contact coil springs that meet the highest electrical and mechanical requirements.

PIERON Canted coil springs - FAQ
PIERON's canted coil springs are helically wound, ring-shaped wire springs made of stainless steel or copper wire. They have been specially developed to ensure both electrical contact and mechanical force transmission between two components. Their geometry (oval coil shape) and the elastic behavior of the wire material ensure a reliable mechanical connection and secure current transmission. Canted coil springs are used in steering systems, connectors, and electrical contacts. Their unique design allows for high contact density and uniform force transmission in the smallest of spaces—ideal for modern high-current applications.
The canted coil spring functions via an elastically prestressed wire structure that compresses axially during insertion, thereby generating a defined, uniform contact force . The ring- or oval-shaped geometry guarantees a maximum number of contact points and uniform force application around the contact area. The result is a stable electrical connection with high current-carrying capacity – even with customer-specific mating cycles or under dynamic loads. The canted coil spring acts simultaneously as a mechanical spring element and an electrical conductor.
PIERON manufactures canted coil springs in wire diameters from 0.3 to 1.5 mm from highly conductive copper alloys and stainless steels – optionally with additional coatings or surface treatments. A reliable manufacturing process, complemented by quality assurance and traceability according to automotive standards, results in series products with consistently high functional reliability. The spring characteristic curve, contact force, and tolerances are individually adjusted depending on the application.
PIERON's canted coil springs are designed for maximum performance in minimal installation space . They combinehigh, uniform contact force with extremely low contact resistance, enabling reliable transmission of even high currents with minimal heating. PIERON's canted coil springs stand out in particular thanks to the development-integrated approach, in which the product is developed together with the customer right from the start – with customized material and dimension consulting, in a customer-specific, space-oriented design for the most compact installation situations. Equally distinctive is the high level of process expertise. PIERON benefits from development and production in its own toolmaking facility, including prototyping, simulation, and optimization of the manufacturing process optimization. This ensures reliable series production to the highest standards – from material selection and development to series production with a zero-defect strategy. PIERON's canted coil spring – a perfectly coordinated combination of customized design, high-precision manufacturing, and development-oriented customer integration. Ideal for demanding applications with the highest quality requirements.
PIERON canted coil springs are specifically designed for applications with the highest requirements on electrical conductivity, reliability, and space optimization. Typical areas of application are:
- High-current connector systems in the automotive industry
- Connectors in high-current modules
- Contact solutions with frequent mating cycles
- High-performance signal and power transmission
